Bucket List

I am turning 40. There, I said it. That's really not so bad. I wouldn't go back to any age I was before. I am living the American Dream. I have two kids that are amazing, a husband that loves me, and even the dog. We have a nice house, warm clothes (some are even stylish, but that seems to be getting fewer and farther between as I get older), and good food to eat. I have an amazing family and have reconnected with a lot of my friends in the past year or so. By all accounts I am so very lucky.

With all that being said, I find myself examining my life and where I am at 40 compared to where I thought I would be. In some areas I am very happy, most notably the ones listed above. In others I feel woefully inadequate. It is because of this that I am creating this blog. This spring I am going on a trip with some old friends. I say old because we have known each other for many years, not because we are all turning 40. On this trip we are planning to accomplish some items off our bucket lists. Theirs encompass some adventures like white water rafting and hot air ballooning. Since I am not an adrenaline junkie, mine are a bit more tame. One of my dreams has been to become a writer. A real writer. I have wanted to write a book for years but life has gotten in the way. In its place I have decided to write a blog. I am actually going to tell people about it. I am hoping they will hold me accountable so I will write at least three times a week. My hope is that by writing posts, it will get me in the right frame of mind to start my "Great American Novel."

So here it is. On December 31, 2010, I am pledging to start down the path. I am not going to climb every mountain or forge every stream, but I will follow every rainbow, till I find my dream.
